Human Rights

“Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, rescue the oppressed, defend the orphan, plead for the widow” (Isaiah 1:16-17).

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. ~Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Gospel of Christ is at its core, one that compels us to always be mindful of those who are different from us. Human Rights can and will only begin when we all start treating each other with the same regard in which we wish to be treated. It is the God-given birthright of each person to be treated with dignity, respect and equality, knowing that we are all children of the same creator.

We strive to appreciate the uniqueness of each of us and celebrate the diversity that God has blessed us all with. Human Rights can only begin to take root when we remember that each of us have the responsibility to Love one another as ourselves, for in fact the rights that are often claimed by the privileged few are in fact the divine birthright of all. We must always strive to see each other as God sees us, wonderfully and fearfully made creations of the Divine.

We pray for the scales to be lifted from our eyes, so that we can, in word and deed demonstrate to all the love of God that we so cherish. We must acknowledge that we have often been guilty of not loving our neighbors as ourselves, and we humbly repent. If God stands for all, then who are we to condemn another. In fact we must champion the rights of other to the same degree that we fight for our own rights.

Based on many different factors and none; forgetting that it is God who has made each and everyone of us, uniquely individual as our finger prints and we are ALL created in God’s image. Then what are we doing? When will we start to recover the Human Rights each are each born with? Only when we begin to see the value of every single individual as one of God's ’s very own – no longer a disposable person in our society – a fellow brother – sister – neighbor.

Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope... and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.  ~Robert F. Kennedy

Isaiah 58:9-11

If you do away with the yoke of oppression,
       with the pointing finger and malicious talk,

and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
       and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
       then your light will rise in the darkness,
       and your night will become like the noonday.

The LORD will guide you always;
       he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
       and will strengthen your frame.
       You will be like a well-watered garden,
       like a spring whose waters never fail.
