Issues

Health care

Jesus spoke these prophetic words  in Matthew 25: 36, "...I was sick and you looked after me..."

Physical health and healing have long been on the heart of God for humanity.   The SGPI is targeting the issues of health care and healing for strategic prayer.  Millions of Americans have no health insurance or only minimal access to expensive health care.  Let us pray for the will of the nation to align with the will of God for health care to be made available for all.  Let us also pray for medical researchers to be guided to new cures in their quest to eradicate disease globally.

Poverty and Economic Crisis

The recent economic crisis is escalating an already growing problem of global and national poverty.  What should be done to help the poor?  There are over two thousand scriptures touching the subject of poverty.  These many texts reveal that God takes an uncompromising position for the poor to be dealt with in a merciful fashion through benevolence and economic justice.

The Apostle Paul declared that the "love of money is the root of all evil".  What a contrast that is to the two greatest commandments identified by Jesus.  He proclaimed that loving God and our neighbors should be prioritized above all else.  Paul diagnosed the root problem and Jesus prescribed the foundational remedy when He told us to "do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Let us pray for God's merciful justice and wisdom to be imparted to our leaders as they seek to rebuild the economy in a just and equitable way.

War, Peace and Nonviolence

The War ,Peace, and Nonviolence Issues Group of the SGPI exists to collect and disseminate relevant information from around the world so that we might pray for God's guidance as we advance the causes of peace and justice. We shall pray for God's wisdom; we shall pray for those working for peace; and, following the call of Matthew 5.44, we shall pray for the enemies of peace, that they might be transformed by God's love and come face-to-face with the peace that surpasses all understanding.

Human Rights

Scripture commands us to safeguard the rights and wellbeing of all. As Isaiah 58:9-11 states:

If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.

The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. Let us pray for the rights of all, and that our own eyes be opened to see all as our brothers and sisters.

Environmental Concerns

Genesis 2:15 tells us "And the Lord God took the man, and put him in the garden of Eden to till and to keep it."

We invite you to join us in global prayer for preservation of God's creation, to care for it and preserve it for our children and all subsequent generations. We were instructed to be good stewards, to till the land and the seas, to reap their rewards; to renew our natural resources, not rapaciously destroy them.

Let us pray for the wisdom and the courage to preserve our natural resources.
